As the Northwest Chargers proudly enter its 37th year as an organization dedicated to the development and growth of youth hockey in our community, we are mindful that our organization’s success is due to the dedication and commitment of our players and their families, our coaches, our directors, and our volunteers, and for that we thank each and every one of you. Exciting upgrades to our program have been implemented for the upcoming season that will undoubtedly position the Chargers as one of the premier hockey clubs in Illinois. Based on the hard work of many, the Central States Hockey Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL) has invited the Chargers to compete at a record five levels for the upcoming season: Squirt Major, Pee Wee Minor, Pee Wee Major, Bantam Minor, and Bantam Major. Additional teams will compete in the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL) at a variety of levels including Elite, and our Midget U15 team will also participate in premier showcase hockey with the National Junior Hockey Prospects League (NJPHL). The success of all of our teams, no matter the age group or level, will be built on a foundation of skill development, discipline, hard work (on and off the ice), teamwork, and respect for one another.
A key architect in building this foundation is the addition of Coach Wayne Brown. Coach Brown’s commitment to the game and his passion for the development of youth hockey is beyond measure and we are proud to welcome him as our new on-ice Skills Director. Coach Brown will create strategic lesson plans that target the age and level of our skaters, and will collaborate closely with the coaching staff to identify skating strengths and areas of improvement throughout the season. Another key component to the success of the Chargers is our returning Director of Goaltending, Coach Zach Drane of Good as Gould Goalie School. Coach Zach’s tutelage of our tenders has been instrumental to their development and our success over the years, and the Chargers are thrilled that he will continue his best-in-class goalie instruction to our tenders. Finally, we are excited to announce that professional dryland training will continue to be included with program fees and will now feature the professional staff at GVN Performance. GVN Performance will offer targeted off-ice training for youth hockey players in a team setting specifically designed to improve the players’ strength, agility, and acceleration on the ice. All dryland sessions will be held in the state-of-the art MPI Sports Development Center just walking distance from the Mount Prospect Ice Arena.

To our returning families, we thank you for your unwavering and continued support. To those that might be looking to join our organization for the first time, we appreciate your interest and welcome your questions and input. To all, we look forward to welcoming each of you this coming 2019/20 season to the Chargers’ family.
