Player Movement Rules

Mite Co-Ed Players

For all returning Mite players who were in our program during the 2024-25 season or any Future Chargers who are ready to move to travel hockey, we are so happy to have you with us on your journey. For any new players to our program, if you played for a different program last fall season and participated on a CUHL team (Chicago United Hockey League), you are considered an import player according to league rules. (If you played with another program and did not participate in the CUHL league, this import rule does not apply to you).

Our Mite 2, 3, and 4 teams are only allowed two imports each for the fall 2025-26 season. The Hockey Director and Coaching Staff will evaluate the import situation, and you will be contacted if this rule impacts your player in any way. Please note that this also applies to Rolling Meadows Renegades players (even though they are a park district/house league program) who participated on a travel plus team and participated in CUHL. You are considered an import, and your ability to join our travel program will be evaluated and may be limited, as we can only accept two imports per team. This rule does not apply to players who participated in Learn-to-Skate, Pre-Mite, Pre-Hockey, NWHL teams, or USA Hockey teams as Mites. Please see the CUHL Import Rule and FAQs page on their website for further clarification, or contact our Hockey Director.  CUHL Import (Two Player) Rule and FAQ

Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam, & Midget Co-Ed Players

AHAI Player Movement Rule

(Rules & Regulations, Article 16.16)

For any 2017 player moving to Squirts (10U), no import playing rules will be in effect. For any 10U, 12U, or 14U players moving to our program from a Tier 3 (House) program, import rules do not apply.

Players moving between AHAI Tier II Youth Affiliate Organizations is limited by age classification:

  • 10U - The limit is two (2) players per Tier II Team at the 10U Squirt level who played Tier II the previous year for another Affiliate Organization Tier II program as a Squirt.
  • 12U - The limit is three (3) players per Tier II Team at the 12U PeeWee level who played Tier II the previous year for another Affiliate Organization Tier II program
  • 14U - The limit is four (4) players per Tier II Team at the 14U Bantam level who played Tier II the previous year for another Affiliate Organization Tier II program.

There is no limit on Tier II Youth Player movement at the 16U and 18U playing levels.

There are two exceptions to the Player Movement limit:

  • Players who previously played with a Tier II Youth Affiliate Organization as one of their Two Choices will not count against the maximum, regardless of their club affiliation in the previous Regular Season.
  • Players who played for a Tier II Youth Affiliate Organization that does not field a team at a level will not count against the maximum for the Tier II Youth Affiliate Organization to which the player moves.

AHAI Tier II - Two Choice Rule

(Rules & Regulations, Article 16.5)

Every player in the State of Illinois may choose between two (2) Tier II Youth Affiliate Organizations for their Squirt (10U) and Bantam (14U) years. Beginning their U15 year, they are awarded one (1) additional Tier II choice. Requests for choice substitutions must go to AHAI. See the AHAI website for more information and the application process. Amateur Hockey Association Illinois.

Girls Players

AHAI Girls Player Movement

(Rules & Regulations, Article 17.16)

We are excited to begin offering Girls-only teams this season. We are considered a new affiliate for the 2025-26 season, and as a result, we are guided by the following rules:

  • If your player was on a Girls-Only affiliate team at the Tier 2 level in the 2024-25 season, they are not eligible to join a Chargers Girls-Only team until the 2026-27 season.
    1. However, if your current Girls-Only affiliate team does not field a Girls-Only team at your player's specific age level, you are eligible to join the Chargers Girls-Only team for the 2025-26 season.
  • If your player was on a Co-Ed Tier 2 team at another program in the 2024-25 season, they are welcome to play on our Girls-Only teams, and no import rules will apply.
  • If your player was on a Co-Ed Tier 2 team at another program in the 2024-25 season, they are welcome to play on our Co-Ed teams, but the above 10U, 12U, and 14U player movement rules will apply.
  • If your player was on a Girls-Only team at another program and wishes to tryout for our Co-Ed teams, then no import rules would apply
