The Northwest Jr. Chargers proudly enter our 6th year as an organization. Our first-class Mite program continues to strengthen and is essential to our growth as an organization. Exciting upgrades to our program have been implemented for the upcoming season that will undoubtedly position the Jr. Chargers as one of the premier hockey clubs in Illinois. The success of all of our teams, no matter the age group or level, will be built on a foundation of skill development, discipline, hard work, teamwork, and hopefully a little fun along the way.
A key architect in building this foundation is the addition of Coach Wayne Brown. Coach Brown’s commitment to the game and his passion for the development of youth hockey is beyond measure and we are proud to welcome him as our new on-ice Skills Director. Coach Brown will create strategic lesson plans that target the age and level of our skaters, and will collaborate closely with the coaching staff to identify skating strengths and areas of improvement throughout the season. Another key component to the success of the Chargers is our returning Director of Goaltending, Coach Zach Drane of Good as Gould Goalie School. Coach Zach’s tutelage of our tenders has been instrumental to their development and our success over the years, and the Chargers are thrilled that he will continue his best-in-class goalie instruction to our tenders and continue to collaborate with our coaching staff to ensure more targeted instruction between the pipes. Team practices this season will include small area games incorporated into strategic cross-ice drills. Mites should also expect full-ice skating drills as well as team concepts to prepare them for full-ice games and tournaments.
We will field five teams in all divisions of the Chicago United Hockey League (CUHL), which is an affiliate of Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The season is structured by a 6-game seeding round, followed by a 18-game schedule of like teams in the Chicago area. The regular season concludes with a playoff tournament. The Jr. Charger teams will also participate in 1-3 weekend tournaments, decided at later date. More information regarding our 2019/20 program offerings, including everything you need to know about the tryout season can be found in this informational packet. Thank you for your interest in our program, and welcome to the 2019/20 season.
